The Active
Patrol is a marching unit and appears in parades and
competitions marching in close order drill. The Patrol
is the oldest uniformed Unit in the Shrine. It was
formed back in the early years of the temple and served
as the Potentate's Honor Guard for many years. The first
meeting to form a Patrol was held on March 13, 1918 and
the Patrol was formed. The second meeting was held a
week later and the members of the Patrol were fitted for
uniforms donated by the Potentate of Lulu Shrine in
Philadelphia. The first President was Noble Edward J.
Keefe. Noble Charles H. Moorehouse was the first
Captain. Noble G.H. Wygant the first Secretary.
Since that initial meeting
several generations have grown gray and passed on after
long service in this Unit. Several score of Patrol
members have gone on to serve Egypt Shrine as
Potentates. Conditions have changed since 1918. New
marching and mechanized units have been formed and as a
result the Active Patrol has had to compete intensely
with the newer units for membership.
We who
march with the Active Patrol look back with pride on the
accomplishments of those who have marched before us, and
we rededicate ourselves to carry on the glorious
tradition of those who have preceded us in this
historical Unit.
You who are considering
becoming active with a Shrine Unit are invited to join
