Showmen's Shrine Club (Special)

egyptshrine

Acting is the major talent of the Nobles of the Egypt Shrine Ritual Team. When the Oscars are distributed in Los Angeles Shriners Auditorium each year, a terrible injustice is done. The Ritual Team should be there to collect the lion's share of the awards. The show they perform at the First Section of the Shriners Ceremonial is outstanding. As of the Spring Class of 1998, non-Shriners will be able to see the show. Many of the ladies are interested in what code of ethics a Shriner lives by.

The Ritual Team has many openings and one of the Nobles in that group will gladly coach new comers.

The cost of joining this unique group is affordable.

No equipment or uniforms are needed, everything you need is provided; at no charge.

Being a part of this Special Unit does not effect your membership in any other Club or Unit.

Prerequisite for joining - Must be a Shriner.

We meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month in the main building conference room.

The cost is $15/year OR purchase a shirt.

The only special skill needed is to enjoy people we'll teach you the rest.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a member, come to our monthly meeting.

Good old down home fun and frivolity are the requirements for our Crackerjack Unit of Egypt Shrine. The Nobles of this unit have polished the mountain lifestyle to an art form. Director's Staff Unit

egyptshrine

Every new Noble that has entered the Shrine has met the Director's Staff.

That group was responsible for conducting the second section of our Shrine Ceremonials. In addition to their responsibilities at the Ceremonials, the Director’s Staff of Egypt Shrine is extremely active in all of the Shrine activities. Several Elected and Appointed Officers of the Shrine are members of the Director’s Staff making this Unit one of the most visible groups in our ranks.

They ride in our parades on a float which features one of our Hospital Children.

The Directors Staff has several social activities which are well attended by all of the Nobles of Egypt Shrine. They include dances, picnics, golf tournaments and a barbecue dinner (a.k.a. Corn Boil) which features all of the boiled corn you can eat.

The Director’s Staff was the first Unit to hold their own convention where Staff members from all over North America convened and held competition in their specialty. What a great way to see the country as well as getting to gain new friends all over the continent. The Shrine Directors Convention was held in Tampa, Florida in the year 2000.

Prerequisite for joining - Must be a member of Egypt Shrine who “walked” the Hot Sands and is not a member of any other uniformed Unit.

We meet on the last Tuesday of the month in the Directors room in the Unit Building.

The cost for a beginning member is $100.00 Application fee and $75.00 annual dues and a small outlay for uniforms.

The only special skill needed is to enjoy people.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a member, contact us by E-mail or come to the Unit Building on the last Tuesday.

Fun-N-Frolic Unit (Clowns)

egyptshrine

If you like the smell of grease paint and the laughter of children, then you will love being a clown. The Egypt Shrine Fun & Frolic Unit are all a bunch of clowns - literally! And they love every minute of it. One of our favorite sayings is “Everyone is a clown€¦ But, only a few of us have the courage to put on the makeup!”.

Our Nobles can be found hard at work at the Circus, in parades, at our Shriners Hospital located in Tampa, Florida and many other local events that we have been asked to attend. There is never a Shrine event where there isn’t a group of clowns capturing the attentions of the children present with their balloon tying and fun making. The unit holds an annual Oktoberfest in the Unit Activities Building each October, when else? They serve German food, German music and copious amounts of the output of German brew meisters. Each of the clowns have adopted a “clown” name, such as “Smurf”, “Waki the Wizard”, “Nickels”, and “MooCow” to name just a few.

Prerequisite for joining:

Must be a member of Egypt Shrine

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month in the Unit Building at 7:30 pm

The cost for a beginning member is $50.00 Application fee and $140.00 annual dues and a small outlay for uniforms.

The only special skill needed is to enjoy children we’ll teach you the rest.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a member, visit our custom website or come to the Unit Building on the third Wednesday at 6:30 pm.

Greeters Unit

egyptshrine

Meeting people is a natural benefit of the Greeters Unit. That is their job, welcoming members to Egypt Shrine and recording their attendance. You can always encounter the outstretched hand as you enter the Auditorium on meeting night. Your first stop is at the Greeter's table where they record your attendance. The uniforms required for this friendly group are very reasonable, but quite handsome. Prerequisite for joining - Must be a member of Egypt Shrine

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month in the Unit Building

The initial cost to join is as follows: $50.00 one-time assessment fee, $25.00 initiation fee and $22.50 per-year dues. Small outlay for uniforms.

Keystone Kops Unit

egyptshrine

The Keystone Kops are a very active Unit of Egypt Shrine. The Keystone Kops and their Pink Panther Prisoners, along with the Paddy Wagon are standouts in the many parades we are in every year.

Good fun, good fellowship, & good food are the basis of the Kops Unit. We have monthly family dinners which brings the Kops and their Ladies together for an afternoon of food & fellowship.

Our past Prisoner's Balls have been very successful and a lot of fun. Mark your calendar for the next party. When you come to a Keystone Kops event, you are never sure what will happen.

We are always looking for Nobles to join our Unit. There are openings for Officers, Prisoners, & Drivers.

Come and look us over at our monthly meeting on the 1st Thursday of the month at 8:00 P.M. in our Unit Room in the Activities Building.

Legion of Honor Unit (Special)

egyptshrine

Proud and sparkling, the Egypt Shrine Legion of Honor takes to the streets to lead our contingent in any appearance of the Temple at a parade or a convention. They post the colors of the Shrine Nations, State and Potentate at all Shrine Meetings. As this award winning Unit leaves the floor, they receive a standing patriotic ovation from the assembled Nobility.

The Legion of Honor has a very active national organization and our members look forward to getting together each year and reviving close friendships with other Legion members from Shrines all over North America. They have competition with other Legion of Honor groups and are respected for consistently walking away with the trophies.

The annual Legion of Honor dance held in the Unit Activity Building is well attended by the Nobles of the Shrine and is always the highlight of the Shrine social calendar.

  • Must be a member of Egypt Shrine and a veteran

Midget Motors Unit

egyptshrine

Getting a close working knowledge of the road is a certainty when you are a member of the World Champion Midget Motor Unit of Egypt Shrine. The highlight of this motorized unit is unquestionably the autos that they drive. They are miniature white replicas of a 1953 dirt track race car. They have been dubbed the white mice by outsiders and we know the members don't object to the name as long as you smile when you say it. The handling of these little dynamos is easy to learn and soon after you join this group you will get to compete with the every best. Every new Noble attending the festivities of the second section gets a whiff of the handiwork of the chefs of the Midget Motors. They cook up a mean breakfast where all of the smart members of the Shrine go to get their start for that day.

Prerequisite for joining - Must be a member of Egypt Shrine and enjoy having fun.

We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Unit Building.

The cost for a beginning member is $75.00 application fee, $120.00 annual dues, the cost of a vehicle and an outlay for uniforms.

The only special skill needed is to enjoy people. We'll teach you the rest.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a member, contact any member or come to the Unit Building on the first Thursday.

Motor Corps Unit

egyptshrine

What is a Motor Corps?

The Egypt Shriners Motor Corps is a uniformed parade and competition unit, that represents, promotes and supports Egypt Shrine in its various activities.

We work very hard at what we do and when we are done we play as hard as we worked. Everything we do, we do for the children of the Shrine.

We were the 2008-2009 undefeated International Champions of Shrinedom and have won every Florida Shrine Association competition for the past 5 years!

Oriental Band

egyptshrine

When the term the “other band” is used it refers to the Oriental Band, a group of Egypt Shrine Nobles that dress and play Arabic Disney’s “It’s a Small World” or maybe “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

However, when you hear the Oriental Band perform these tunes, there is no doubt that the songs originated in the Middle East and were once used to soothe skittish camels on a long caravan in the desert. Like most of the Shrine Units, the Oriental Band travels and relaxes with their ladies along side of them. This makes for a strong closely knit warm fellowship. We have some mighty good teachers, in case you are worried about not playing an instrument. In a short time you will be playing as well as one of the finest playing Oriental Bands in the country. When you compare our sounds, our superiority becomes clear. Prerequisite for joining - Must be a member of Egypt Shrine.

The business meeting is on the first Wednesday of the month.

Band practice is conducted on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Wednesday’s of the month. Location is at the Oriental Band Room.

The cost for a beginning member is $35.00 annual dues and a small outlay for uniforms.

The only special skill needed is to enjoy people. We’ll teach you the rest.

If you have any questions or are interested in becoming a member, contact us by E-mail or come to the Unit Building on any Wednesday.

Past Masters Unit

egyptshrine

The past masters unit is the link that connects the shrine to the symbolic lodge as it is composed of shrine-masons who have served in the most respected position to which a mason may be elected by the brethren of his lodge. We were chartered on August 15, 1972.

The past masters unit has a degree team and is always ready to exemplify degrees at the request of symbolic lodges. This team operates under the direction of right worshipful _____________ who is past district deputy grand master and present district instructor of the 22nd Masonic District.

We have two social activities each year to which we invite our wives and the widows of deceased members of our unit. The first of these is a banquet which we schedule for the springtime. These are held at one of the fine restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. In the fall we have a steak cookout at the shrine picnic area known as Hooper's Hollow.

We meet at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month except July and August. Our meetings are held in the shrine club room which is just south of the oasis.

The annual dues are only $15.00 and initiation fee is the amount of one years dues. We invite you to become a member of our unit.

Membership is open to any noble who is a member of Egypt Shrine and is either the worshipful master or past worshipful master of his symbolic lodge.

Pharaohs Unit

egyptshrine

The Pharaohs were chartered in 1969 with 42 members, some of whom are still active today. The Pharaohs have always been active in Egypt Temple functions, many holding high Temple Appointments indicating the quality of the Pharaohs membership. The Pharaohs are a motorcycle unit, which originally competed with Honda 50's. We presently ride black Harley Davidson Police Road Kings (FLHPI).

In competition precision drill, the Pharaohs team competes at the Florida Shrine convention and the Imperial Shrine convention in cities like Jacksonville, Chicago, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Boston. The Pharaohs eagerly look forward to these trips with our extended Shrine Family!

The unit has been an active participant in Temple parades since we were chartered. The unit room, which is open to its members and guests 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is one of the finest in the Activities Building. We believe in good hospitality for members and guests, and are dedicated to achieving the highest honors on the competition field.

Our door is always open to any Noble in Shrinedom, and we invite you to stop by and visit with us! Our monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM in the Pharaohs unit room. Please visit with us.

Provost Guard Unit

egyptshrine

Many of the members of the Egypt Shrine Provost Guard have experience in law enforcement however, that is not a requirement for membership.

The Provost Guard is the Potentate's police force. No, they do not investigate missing food from the buffet line; they spend their time establishing a smooth traffic flow at Shrine events and parades and keeping order when requested. The Nobles of this group have learned how to do a job and have a great deal of fun doing their job.

Every year this unit holds a dance which is well attended by the Shrine Membership. There is no doubt that this is the most pleasant group of cops in the area.

Prerequisite for joining - Must be a member of Egypt Shrine.

We meet on the third Thursday of the month in the Provost Guard Unit Room at 7:30 P.M. in the Unit Building.

Tin Lizzies Unit

egyptshrine

The Tin Lizzie Unit was organized in 1972, with an authorized strength of 24 car-owning members and 5 reserve members.|

Since its inception, the Tin Lizzies have been a family-oriented Unit and as such, we are one of the best-fed Shrine Units in existence. Our Ladies are affectionately referred to as our Pit Crew, and they support us in all of our efforts.

Competition plays a big part in our way of life. Our Unit room reflects the numerous trophies our competition team has brought back over the years for excellence in both the competitive drill and obstacle course victories. We drive replicas of the 1910 Ford Tin Lizzies. Each Noble owns his equipment and is responsible for its maintenance. Our parade inventory of cars include a Tin Lizzie Flag car and a remodeled Tin Lizzie Wrecker/Tow Truck.

Any Noble who wishes, may visit our Unit room, located in the Egypt Shrine Unit Building. We are strong supporters of the Shrine Circus, our Hospitals, motorized competition, and of course, we will parade at the drop of a fez.

This Unit comes out in force to the Children's Christmas Party, the Easter Egg Hunt and any other party to give rides to the children in attendance.
